04.May.2011 About Thian Og Bay

Thian Og Bay or Shark Bay is a beautiful secluded beach area in the south of Koh Tao. The island of Koh Tao is the least developed of the three main islands that make up the Samui Archipelago – Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao. It is an island that is famous for its great diving sites nearby and its unspoiled natural beauty. One of the less visited beaches on Koh Tao is Thian Og Bay.

The main beach on Koh Tao is Sairee Beach. This is where most people come to lie in the sun, learn diving and party the night away. It is the place with the best facilities and the best choice of accommodation. The next most popular beach is Baan Chalok Kao. It has good facilities and has some nice rooms for rent. Some of the bungalows on Chalok Baan Kao have self catering.

Just to the east of Chalok Baan Kao over a peninsula is Thian Og Bay. It is also known as shark bay. It is a famous spot for divers because sharks sometimes gather in the bay. Don’t worry these sharks are well fed and not sick and so don’t attack tourists. Thian Og Bay is much smaller than Chalok Baan Kao and has a better beach. The sand is finer and the sea bottom is sandy rather than muddy.

Thian Og Bay is perfect for those people who like to visit a beach which has a secluded feel. Only a few people stay on this beach at any one time. There are a few people who make day trips to the beach and there are a few divers in the bay; but, generally, this is a place to escape from the world. It is a place to get a suntan or lie in a hammock and read a good book. You won’t be disturbed by beach vendors or the noise of motorbikes.

So if you want a quiet beach that is not difficult to get to and you want beautiful surroundings then Thian Og Bay could be the place for you.
